Eurosapienza is composed by three former Research Centres at Sapienza - University of Rome:

SPES (Studi per lo Sviluppo) is a multidisciplinary
research centre joined by scholars from several Departments
at the University of Rome
La Sapienza and is located in the Faculty
of Economics.
The mission
of SPES Development Studies Research Centre is the analysis
and research on the development process and on its consequences
on humankind, society, economy, culture, environment and territory.
To this aim, SPES Development Studies Research Centre promotes
synergies between scholars working in a multidisciplinary
perspective.
Sapienza University Focal Point for implementing, disseminating and mainstreaming the objectives, policy agenda and programme of work of the Convention on Biological Diversity
The International University Network on Cultural and Biological Diversity is the main initiative developed under the Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation signed by the Sapienza University of Rome and the Secretariat of the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (Rio, 1992).
December 2011. SPES is currently submitting, together with other European Universities, a proposal for the institution of a new EADI Working Group on "Sustainable Development, Vulnerability, and Resilience" Berlin Declaration
The Council of SPES Development Studies,
following the proposal of EADI, the European Association of Development
Research and Training Institutes, has formally subscribed (25 November 2010) the Berlin Declaration on Open Access to Knowledge in the Sciences and Humanities.

------------------------------------------------------------------------- Course of Higher Learning on Sustainable Development
and the Millennium Development Goals
We are
pleased to inform you that the Centro PVS, in collaboration with the
Centro SPES and several departments of Sapienza Universita’ di Roma,
offers a Course of Higher Learning (“Corso di Alta Formazione”) on
“Sustainable Development and The Millennium Development Goals”.
The course will be conducted entirely in English and will be held in
Rome from 16 to 28 May 2011. The course will be open to graduates in all
major disciplines both from Italy and the rest of the world. Course
fees are € 614.62. The Sapienza’ Centro PVS will wave fees and provide
air tickets and accommodation to three applicants from African
countries.
To facilitate planning, all those wishing to apply are requested to
notify in advance the course secretariat at: millennio@uniroma1.it
adding their CV in EU format (see below).
At the end of the Course, a panel shall evaluate all participants who
will have successfully and fully attended it in order to select
candidates (max 15) for participation in a two-week “reality studio”
(Millennium University Studio Team) that will take place in the summer
2011 on the site of the UN-HABITAT LVWATSAN Initiative (Lake Victoria
Region). Travel, accommodation on site and subsistance costs will be
covered by the project.
We cordially invite you to submit a paper
and/or a panel proposal for the 13th EADI General Conference of the
European Association of Development Research and Training Institutes,
in co-operation with the Development Studies Association of the United
Kingdom and Ireland. The deadline for the submission of panel proposals
is 15 October 2010. The deadline for abstract submission is 15 January 2011.

MoU between Sapienza and and the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity
The Senato Accademico of SAPIENZA University of Rome has empowered the Rettore
to sign the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between SAPIENZA and
the “Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity” (Montreal)
for implementing, disseminating and mainstreaming the objectives,
policy agenda and programme of work of the Convention.
http://www.cbd.int/convention/convention.shtml According to the MoU, SAPIENZA University of Rome and CBD Secretariat designate SPES - Development Studies Research Centre at Sapienza - as “Sapienza University Focal Point and Coordinator”
for advancing the objectives of the Memorandum and mutually agreed
activities, and for facilitating the exchange of information on all
issues of relevance of the MoU.
Professor Mariano Pavanello has promoted the agreement and is in charge of its implementation.

Doctoral Workshop on development
and international organizations
Paper proposals are invited from current doctoral students
and early career postdoctoral researchers (up to three
years post-PhD) conducting research on the World Bank
Group and other international organizations in any social
science field. Please follow the

EADI Prize for Development Studies
The European Association of Development
Research and Training Institutes (EADI) announces the 2010 prize for
excellence in development research. The prize, worth €1 000, will be
awarded for an essay on an issue of development studies in any field
of the social sciences submitted and written by a postgraduate student
from an EADI member country or attending a programme at an
institutional member of the Association. Follow the link for further details.
