Changing Identity of Rural India
The book "Changing Identity of Rural India" edited by Elisabetta Basile and Ishita Mukhopadhyay and published by Anthem Press (Delhi and London) will be launched on the 4th of February in Calcutta University, Kolkata. The editors and some of the authors will be there as well as the Vice-Chancellor of Calcutta University Prof. Suranjan Das and the Italian Consul General Bruno Campria.
The volume is the outcome of the scientific collaboration between SPES Research Centre on Development Studies at La Sapienza and Calcutta University.

Global Governance for Sustainable Development
The 12th EADI General Conference will take place in Geneve, Switzerland, from 24th to 28th June, 2008.
EADI is the European Association for Development Research and Training Institutes, to which SPES participates from 2007.
The conference's theme is Global Governance for Sustainable Development. The conference's official web site is http://eadi.org/gc2008/

Rome Millenium City Prize
The Rome Millennium Cities Prize has been instituted by the Rome City Council on a proposal by the Mayor of Rome and Chair of the UCLG Millennium Development Goals Committee, Walter Veltroni. will be awarded to cities that have distinguished themselves in pursuing the Millennium Development Goals and Targets thus improving the conditions of their poorest citizens. The prizewinning city from the South will receive the sum of 50,000 Euros, to be devoted to the implementation of its Millennium City strategic plan.
The secretariat of the Rome Millennium Cities Prize is the Centro PVS, Department of Territorial and Urban Planning, “Sapienza” Universita’ di Roma, that is affiliated to SPES Development Studies.

The meeting has taken place at the Department of Law and Economics of the University of Rome La Sapienza, and has been introduced by a keynote address by the Delegate of Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Prof. Roberto Miccù, member of SPES.

in Rural India, that will be held on 11-12 September 2006,
Calcutta University – Kolkata.

First International Conference on the Management of Natural
Resources, Sustainable Development and Ecological Hazards.

2005 July: the Master
in Non Farm Activities and Rural Development in Developing
Countries has been activated at the SPES Development
Studies Research Centre.
The aim of the Master is to provide a rigorous and critical
introduction to rural development as a process of change in
societies on the periphery of the global economy. The course
deals with rural development from a multidisciplinary perspective
and focuses on non-farm activities as the major key to growth
and change in rural areas. A specific emphasis is given to
industrial districts and clusters of small and intermediate
firms that appear as the major form taken by non-farm activities
in rural areas.
