The Faculty of Architecture of the University of Rome, the first to be founded in Italy in 1920, has inherited the tradition of the Higher School of Architecture, based on the unification of the teaching of building, restoration, and urban planning. It has a diverse and rich faculty, with relevant personalities in several scientific fields. The large student body contributes to a vibrant environment, with a large number of cultural activities, such as in no other Italian architecture school.
Through its departments and research centres, the School carries out a vast and diverse range of research activities in the fields of architecture, urban planning, landscape architecture, architectural history, restoration, building technology, structural engineering, etc. Most of these are carried out through national, European and international networks. The School has activated a large number of international research and teaching exchange programmes with international partners in different fields.
The Doctoral School is located in the scenic Valle Giulia, in Rome’s historic centre, facing the historic park of Villa Borghese and Vignola’s Villa Giulia. The surrounding streets host most of Rome’s foreign cultural academies, as well as the National Gallery of Modern Art and the Etruscan Archaeological Museum. The location is well connected by tramways and subway, and is just a brief walk from Piazza del Popolo.
