Competition for ideas for decorative panels
The “Dipartimento di Informatica” set up a competition for ideas for decorative panels on the theme “INFORMATICS” which could be used to adorn the walls of its laboratories.
On 15 ottobre 2004 prizes were awarded to the winning artists, followed by the permanent exhibition of their panels. Cash prizes were awarded to the five best works presented by students from the “Sapienza” University.
All the winning Panels are now exhibited on the walls of the laboratories of the “Dipartimento di Informatica”.
Address by the Head of the “Dipartimento di Informatica” to students who participated in the Ideas Competition for decorative panels to be placed in the laboratories.
"... Yes, we will cast doubt upon everything, everything. And we will not proceed with seven-league boots, but at a snail’s pace. And whatever we find today we’ll wipe from the slate tomorrow and we won’t write it again unless we rediscover it some day. "
"The Life of Galileo" by Bertolt Brecht
PTaking inspiration from Galileo’s words, may your minds always be ready to get information, to seek confirmation, to change their ways of looking, so as to remain free from preconceived dogmas. In particular, may you never succumb to that prejudice which holds culture to be divided into separate sectors (scientific, artistic, literary), because reason, creativity and imagination interact naturally with each other, enabling a theorem to be composed and/or appreciated as a musical piece, an equation as a literary passage, an algorithm as a work of art.
