About us
The "Dipartimento di Informatica" was founded in January 1992 on the initiative of a group of Professors from a variety of backgrounds (Engineering, Physics and Mathematics) working in the "Guido Castelnuovo" Department of Mathematics of the "Sapienza" University of Rome. The Department was the first centre in the Rome area to be dedicated to research on the fundamentals and applications of informatics using primarily the scientific methodology of the disciplines of mathematics and physics.
Today the Department has become a focal point for young people wishing to acquire a sound theoretical and experimental preparation which will enable them to enter and participate actively in the fast evolving world of Information and Communication Technology.
The "Dipartimento di Informatica", whose present Head is Alessandro Panconesi, is internationally recognised for its work in many important areas of research in Informatics. Past Heads of the "Dipartimento" were: Renato Capocelli, Giancarlo Bongiovanni, Daniel Pierre Bovet, Stefano Levialdi, Marina Moscarini, Rossella Petreschi.
The main premises of the Department are located in Via Salaria 113. A portion of the Department's teaching is also carried out in the Citta' Universitaria, Piazzale Aldo Moro, and in the laboratories located in Via Tiburtina.
