Advanced University Master
International Master in Architectural Project Management
The Master is delivered jointly with L’École Nationale Superieure d’Architecture de Paris La Villette (ENSAPLV). The diploma is recognized in the respective countries and is issued separately by the two Universities. Official languages of the Master are Italian and French. Translations in Italian will be provided during the sessions in Germany and in Spain.
The following institutions cooperate in the Master’s activities and programmes:
- Department of Structures – Faculty of Engineering of the University of Calabria;
- il Departament de Urbanismo y Ordenacion del Territorio dell’ Escola Tècnica Superior d’Arquitectura del Valles dell’Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (ETSAV);
- Faculty of Architecture of the Belgrade University – Serbia.

The Master is structured in 4 modules, it has a duration of one year and carries 60 CFU (University Formative Credits) which correspond to 60 ECTS (European Credits Transfer System) comprising a total of 1,500 hours.
Attendance to the course is compulsory for obtaining the above-mentioned credits.
The Master prepares candidates for the professional figure of Architectural Project Managerfromconceptionto execution and maintenance of works. It is a professional profile highly required in Europe, which is also being recognized in Italy with architectural and planning studios, companies and public institutions.
The contents cover the following areas: quality of urban and territorial transformations, small, medium and large scale complex projects, public and private customer base, and productive processes. In particular, it addresses: integrated project, project financing, multidimensional economic evaluation of the project, feasibility studies, certificate of quality, project and construction site safety, European regulatory framework, environmental sustainability, communication strategies.
The Master is held in four locations: Rome, Paris, Hamburg, Barcelona.
Didactic units which are held in Rome will be organized once a week in the premises of CAVEA, Piazza Borghese 9. Study sessions in Paris, Berlin-Hamburg and in Barcelona will be held in sito in the period as indicated in the program, with participation of foreign lecturers, private companies and public administrations, important Italian, French, German, and Spanish architectural and planning studios, construction and production companies. During the whole Master will be organized visits to studios, construction sites and completed structures.
Exchanges with the Master in Gestion creativa y transformacion de la ciudad centro metropolitano de arquitectura sustentable, Mexico D.F are also envisioned.
The Master awards two diplomas: one of the Sapienza University of Rome and one of ENSAPLV – École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Paris -La Villette.
In the past four cycles the Master has been attended by professionals coming from various Italian regions, United States, Canada, Brazil, Columbia, Greece.
The deadline for pre-enrolment is November 20, 2009.
The admission fee is 3,500 EUR payable in two installments.
It is possible to attend one or more didactic modules, consisting of at least 18 CFU, in which case the costs include the admission fee payable to the University and a fee proportional to the CFU obtained. In such case the Master awards a certificate of attendance.
GENERAL AIMS
The Master provides an educational course aimed at creation of a professional profile of ARCHITECTURAL PROJECT MANAGER from conception to execution and maintenance of the structure. It is a professional figure highly required in Europe, which is also being recognized in Italy with project and planning studios, companies and public institutions.
It is aimed at young graduates, free professionals and operators covering technical and management roles in project conception and implementation, in public and private enterprises.
The master is organized in locations in Rome and abroad with modules which include seminars, at least one project planning workshop and possible internships with professional and production businesses.
The contents cover the following areas: quality of urban and territorial transformations, small, medium and large scale complex projects, public and private customer base, and productive processes.
The management of the entire development procedure of an architectural project, from conception to execution, through coordination of various competences that play role in elaboration of a “complex project”, is addressed at various scales and understood as an outcome of the application of:
• disciplinary plurality
• plurality of works
• plurality of functions
• plurality of funding sources
The objective is to improve the overall quality of architecture and urban environment through a comprehensive strategy of the project conception, planning, development and management aspects.
The Master is organized around 4 main fields:
• Project and Planning
• Organization of Customer Base (public /private)
• Period of Development
• Period of Production
The attention is primarily drawn to certain problems which appear to be recurrent in an architectural project, and which assume a particular importance in the complex project management:
• quality of architecture
• integrated design
• communication strategies
• multidimensional economic evaluation of the project
• project financing
• feasibility studies
• certification of quality
• design and construction site safety
• interpretation of social demand
• European regulatory framework
• environmental sustainability.
The delivery of didactic activities is supported by participation of foreign lecturers, highly qualified professionals working in private enterprises and public administrations, important Italian, French, Spanish and German design and planning studios, construction and material production companies.
Such contributions tackle, together with specific didactic modules, various above-mentioned issues: from integrated project to project financing, feasibility, sustainability.
DIDACTIC ACTIVITIES
Didactic activities are articulated in the following modules:
Module 1 – is held at the Dipartmento di Caratteri dell’Architettura, Valutazione e Ambiente, comprising a research paper – memoire with 28 (CFU) university formative credits equivalent to at least 280 hours.
Within the framework of the above-mentioned Module 1 the following will be held:
seminar of a least 30 hours referring to the Course of Formation for the Energy Certificatio;
A seminar of at least 8 hours referring ti the formation/upgrading for the Safety Coordinator at construction sites (Ex D.LG.S.S 81/08).
The module 1 which is held in Rome is organized in units to be held between November 2009 and June 2010 primarily on Fridays.
Module 2 – is held at l’École Nationale Superieure d’Architecture de Paris La Villette (ENSAPLV) 18 university formative credits equivalent to 180 hours.
Module 3 – is held in Barcelona, with 7 university formative credits equivalent to 70 hours.
Module 4 – is held in Hamburg with 7 university formative credits equivalent to 70 hours.
The Master has a duration of one year and it confers 60 CFU (university formative credits) corresponding to 60 ECTS (European Credits Transfer System) for a total of 1,500 hours.

ORGANIZATION OF DIDACTICS
The Master will be held in Rome at Dipartimento di Caratteri dell’Architettura, Valutazione e Ambiente – Piazza Borghese,9 – 00186 Rome.
The modules abroad will be held in locations specified in the programmes.The lessons will start on November 30, 2009 and will end on November 30, 2010.
Internships and seminars to be held in Rome have been defined by a detailed programme.
The module in France at ENSAPLV – École Nationale Supérieure d’architecture de Paris La Villette will be held in collaboration with important design and planning studios, such as Architecture Studio Rudy Ricciotti, and others, with visits to construction sites, places of production and academic institutions.
The study session at ENSAPLV has a duration of at least 10 days.
The module in Germany in Hamburg will be held in collaboration with important design and planning studios, academic institutions, with visits to construction sites and places of production.
The session has a duration of at least 5 days.
The module in Spain with Tesava (Escuela Tecnica Superior de Arquitectura del Valles Universidad Politecnica di Cataluña - Barcelona), in collaboration with the Municipality of Barcelona, autonomous region of Catalogna Barcelona, Association of Architects of Barcelona, FORUM EXPO 2004 – BARCELONA has a duration of at least 5 days.
The summary of Research papers/Memoires will be published in the bulletin of Dipartimento A&A Architettura e Ambiente.
Certificates are issued for attendance to the seminars.
Attendance to the didactic activities is obligatory and has to be confirmed by the signatures of the candidates; in case of absences exceeding 25% of total lecture hours the candidates will not be issued a diploma.
In the event of absence, poor results and conducts otherwise reprovable, Didactic and Scientific Counsel of the Master may decide to suspend or exclude the candidate from the course. In such cases the admission fees paid will not be refunded.
At the completion of the course the candidates will take a final exam which envisions discussion of a research paper/memoire on a subject consistent with the objectives of the course and at candidate’s choice.
DURATION
The duration of the course is one academic year, with educational activity of 60 formative credits which correspond to 1,500 hours of study. The Master within various Modules organizes internships with companies, productive and planning facilities, a Workshop and seminars.
NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS
The number of participants to the course is limited. The maximum number of participants is 25, while the minimum number of enrolled candidates is 12.
