General information

CoSAN is a multi-centre European and international PhD  program in Cognitive, Social and Affective Neuroscience which aims to investigate the neural correlates of cognitive, social and affective functions  including empathy, intention and action understanding, joint attention, cooperation and competition, within an embodied cognition framework.

Research studies are carried out with neurotypical participants including subjects with specific expertise (e.g. elite athletes, pianists) as well as individuals with brain damage or  neurodevelopmental conditions resulting in social and affective difficulties. Special attention is devoted to brain plasticity, its underlying mechanisms and its potential for intervention.

Facilities

Research studies utilise state-of-the-art technology including Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, Electroencephalography, Laser Evoked Potentials, Somatosensory Evoked Potentials, infrared eye and motion tracking, Thermal imaging, and lesion mapping analysis. Thanks to collaboration with other research centres functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging can be performed.
