What is this? A prize for solver

To help attendance we built a single .ZIP file (~1.6 MBytes at Nov11) containing: Rules, CoverLetter, Brochure, A3 advertisement, Call for Papers, Registration/Booking/Course form, and so on

  The Meeting permits you to exchange new ideas, get access to information not yet published, participate in an interdisciplinary forum and share your research with other engineers, scientists, researchers and company managers.

  This Meeting will consist of a series of oral presentations for four days. The three main sections of the meeting will be presented and discussed in a series of oral and poster contributions.

  Each session begins with a plenary lecture (40 minutes) to stress the most important accomplishments, trends and technical challenges of chemometry in particular research fields; then, oral contributes, selected on the basis of extended abstracts, will be presented (16-20 minutes) in serial sessions.

  Considering the high interest of poster presentations during the previous meetings, no other meeting sections will be held during the poster session. Please attend your poster during poster-session.

  The copyright of long abstracts, posters, talk presentations and personal communications belong to the authors. We do not ask for copyright-transfer but only a signed authorisation to insert the abstract and other information in the conference Proceedings Book, and/or Meeting CD.

  The official language of the meeting is ........ all of the Mediterranean area (see this section). But all the participants must follow these few rules:

1. Poster, slides, videos shows, movies, writing on blackboard, MUST BE IN ENGLISH;
2. To encourage the participation of young scientists and heritage restorers you can speak in ONE of the Mediterranean languages but Oral presentation slides must be IN ENGLISH;
3. If your talk is not in English, all the presentations slides must contain a long description of figures, tables, words all IN ENGLISH, to permit the reader to understand your work.

1. One of the authors MUST sign up to the meeting in order to make a presentation;
2. An invitation to present a paper does NOT mean that CMA4CH will provide financial support (unfortunately);
3. The CMA4CH follows a policy of peer review and merit consideration for acceptance and inclusion into the program. The Scientific Committee; taking into account the peer review results, will decide the acceptance of the communication and the insertion on the Conference program as oral or poster as well as the session on which it will be inserted;
4. There are rules for long abstracts, oral contributions and for poster realisation: please READ carefully and FOLLOW them (but be ready to accept corrections and suggestions from referees!);
5. Electronic presentations are the preferred medium for the oral and poster presentations, see the technical specifications of the PC available during the Meeting;
6. All long abstracts will be collected in a "proceeding book" with ISBN, the Editor needs the authorisation of one of the authors;
7. All long abstract will be saved in a secure place in the Meeting web-site and will be linked (see the past Meeting and authors' contribution) only one year after the end of the Meeting to obtain maximum diffusion of the knowledge and to avoid the "dark digital age" problem. Every year a certificate for the top 3 downloaded will be sent to the winner authors;
8. All presentations, oral and poster, will be collected in a Meeting CD in full text electronic form. The CD will be enclosed in the proceeding book. The book and the CD will be available, on request, for any scientist after the Meeting closure;
9. Please contact as soon as possible (ASAP) the Organising Committee if you have questions about your presentation.

  The policy of the CMA4CH meeting remains unchanged from the first edition: all long abstract are stored in a secure place in the Meeting web site and the link (to the past Meetings and authors' contribution) will be activated one years after the end of the Meeting to obtain maximum diffusion of the knowledge and to avoid the "dark digital age" problem.

  The full text of posters/orals are included only in the CD within the proceeding book, they NEVER will be online!

  The web site of the University uses HTTPanalyze to check every month the downloaded files so we can obtain information about the most appreciated file by the scientific community.

  Every year we compute the sum of long abstract downloads and certify these to the Authors of the three most downloaded works from the web site (in reality we send only a piece of paper with the certificate in future, if we will have money we will send a medal!).

  The CMA4CH lead all authors to abide the principles of ethical research as a prerequisite to participate in the activities (i.e. publication of papers, presentations at the meetings, etc.).

  No form of mingling can be accepted between scientific presentation and advertising in any form, commercial papers and/or without research/development contents will be rejected.

  With an opportune Cover Letter the authors have to sign the right obtained of clearance (from Government, company, private owners, e.g.) necessary to publish and present the research work, this should be obtained by author(s) before submitting the abstract. The Cover Letter should also include a declaration stating that animals sufferance in experiments, etc ... was avoided or at list limited. A draft of this Letter is available on line.

  The Cover Letter must be understood in their principles and then filled in and/or modified and finally signed in original and sent by standard mail.

  Please contact ASAP the Organising Committee if you have questions about your presentation.

  Submitting proposals is an easy but scheduled procedure, so please follow the following rules:

• first: for the pre-submission inquiries, you must send to the Organisation the title of the proposed communication and 4-5 lines of abstract, in reply you will obtain some considerations or the rejection of the proposals. Please read first topics and sub topics. Through modern scientific data base it is easy to find proposal as an exact copy of the already presented papers, they will be securely rejected;
• second: if not rejected in the first step, you must send, by Email, a long abstract of your communication, following literally the rules, together with your photo and curricula and the above said Cover Letter (and signed in original by standard mail);
• third: your long abstract will be subjected to a pre-screening looking for correctness of the rules applications, look and feel. Some minor revisions could be suggested and the corrected copy must be re-sent again in two days;
• fourth: the long abstract will be reviewed for a scientific evaluation by one component of the Scientific Committee (or two if problems rise). The eventual suggestions will be forwarded to you for modifications but you have a few days for this;
• fifth: if your paper passes all the above processes the presentation will be accepted and the title inserted in the opportune page together with the photo and curricula of the first author. At this step it will be also communicated if the communication is accepted in the oral or poster form. When the signed Cover Letter arrives by traditional mail, the paper will be considered for the insertion in the abstract book and the CD.

  If accepted, the communication will be listed in the final program. Unfortunately we have no time to appeal process.

  Presenters are kindly required to help us in the speeding up of procedures with fast replies and accomplishment of corrections.

  At any stage, the presenter can retire her/his work if she/he does not agree with suggestions. For privacy reasons the works will be immediately removed from the web site and from any other storage device with the policy "never stay here".

  Each registered participant cannot present more than one talk and one poster with her/his name as first author. This policy of one plus one will be strictly enforced. The only exception is the addition of an opening lecture.

  Anyway she/he may present additional talks or posters as co-author of an other (registered) author.

  You can express a preference concerning the kind of presentation, but, as above stated, the Scientific Committee will evaluate it and will decide for one of the following: 1) Invited lecture that generally is organised in advance; 2) Oral, the Scientific Committee will try to satisfy your request; 3) Poster, the Scientific Committee will try to satisfy your request.

  Presenters should be prepared for the possibility that some proposed communications may be switched to/from poster and oral presentation following scheduled program.

  Our policy is to get a compromise with Author(s) for the opening lecture and for plenary lectures.

  The pre-submission deadline is 24 March 2012. The Deadline for oral-poster contributes submission is 31 March 2012 (compulsory and not modifiable) and it require the registration fee payment after the preliminary screening and acceptance.

  There is not a deadline for the hotel reservation but the number of rooms at special price is really limited. The Meeting registration deadline, at reduced fee, is end of March 2012, see the subscriptions web page.

  You are encouraged to submit your "presubmission inquiries" very early before the registration. The titles will be inserted in the opportune web page waiting for the registration and the long abstract submission (follow the rules, please).

  As in the previous editions we received strange requests, we add other "presenter information":

1. take into account that the Scientific Committee needs time for the peer review of the proposed communications, they will be considered ONLY after a regular registration that, obviously, CANNOT be done after the relative deadline (March 2012);
2. auditors can register at any time.

  It is available a new version of leaflet (.pdf, ver 1.3, ~450 KBytes) with call for papers. If you need more information on Topics, Sub-Topics and scope of the meeting we suggest the reading of the web page Topics, scope, date.

  There are a few rules to follow for the long abstract submission; please, read and follow them carefully (but here you can find a .ZIP with all the rules inside):

• DO NOT send long abstract directly, read first the Review Procedure written above;
• read first Topics and Sub-Topics and the scope of the meeting in the opportune web page and control if your research is included (the authors can suggest us a forgotten topic);
• announce your preference in the presentation form (oral, poster or no preference at all) but be ready to change if requested;
• read carefully the proposed Cover Letter with the requested declarations. The Cover Letter and the Long-Abstract will be evaluated in the pre-screening and sent back to you if some rules are not respected. The Cover Letter is requested in order to facilitate the editor of the proceeding book signing a similar cumulative declaration requested by the ISBN holder;
• ...... notice more in the rules;
• the 2012 template changed a little, but as examples, see the two LongAbstract of the 2010 edition. Download the environmental example of LongAbstract or cultural heritage example (.pdf about 200KBytes). Look at the pagination, fonts, references, etc..

  In the long abstract, poster, presentation, and in the following publication, you must use ONLY the S.I. (Système International d'Unités) for unités and symboles. Reduce use of unstandard, cm-1 or inches or Atm or ... . For reference you can find documents and instructions on BIPM web site.

  The Author(s) must provide an electronic copy (few Megabytes please) of the oral and/or poster presentation to the Organising Committee to be included in Meeting CD. This CD, with full text, is part of the Abstract Book. If your work is in "under development" or "working in progress" or "to be patented" you can ask to the organisation for the not-insertion in the meeting CD.

  Please remember, we are we are chemists not congresses organisers, so you can help us following rules for Abstract, Poster, Subscribe, etc. If you do not understand these rules .... in the news web page you can find some replies yet ready for you (reply n.1, reply n.2 and reply n.3), if you like you can reuse with citation :-)

  In the previous editions we linked directly to long abstract template but some authors did not read the rules and used only the template so ..... the link for download is inside the rules text. Have a good search!

  In order to create the CD "just on time", the presentations, in electronic format, must be delivered to the organisation on Sunday evening (May 27), or better in the day before. This is mandatory. A LAN will be available, outside the meeting hall, through which you could test your presentation, then it will be transferred in our meeting notebook so being ready on time for your presentation.

  Main rules are (but here you can find a .ZIP with all rules inside):

• english is preferred but, taking into account our "speaking" policy you can speak in one of Mediterranean languages (and Portuguese) but your slides MUST be in English extensive axis labels in figures and tables captions; trying to highlight the key concepts as to be clear for the audience who is not able to understand your language using any method (a mimo course could be useful just a day before the conference!)
• prepare your Oral presentation following the rules,
• check what is available for the Authors in the meeting room.

  Please the Organising Committee directly if you have questions about your presentation.

  In order to create the CD "just on time", the posters, in electronic format, must be delivered to the organisation on Sunday evening (May 27), or better the day before the Meeting. This is mandatory. A small additional fee is required if your presentation is on-paper and if you want that it will be included in Meeting CD.

  All posters must be hanged up on Monday morning and will remain until Wednesday afternoon. There are rules for poster preparation (but here you can find a .ZIP with all rules inside):

• The poster must be up to B1 paper format, if you need more information on ISO 216 or standard ISO paper please read the related links on the proper web page, they contain also a few advice on the preparation of the standard poster or scientific poster. Or, if you like, a lot of advice links on "poster preparation",
• prepare your Poster presentation following the rules,

  Our policy is to select Session Chairman between Authors of considerable expertise on the topic (we will do a choice in May). The contribution of the Session Chairman to the organisation of the Meeting is fundamental. The following guideline must be followed in order to simplify and improve the Meeting program:

• first her/his oral session starts, the Chairman must look for the presence of the speakers. The Chairman is strongly suggested to read first the abstracts of their sessions in order to prepare for each speaker a very short presentation and some final questions!
• at the beginning of the Session, the Chairman must welcome the audience and the speaker, she/he also have to provide a brief (max 5 minutes) introduction summarising the theme and objectives of the session;
• the Chairman must control that speakers respect the scheduled time (this is critical) in order to not cause damage to the last speaker. Before each talk the chairman will introduce the speaker and her/his work (max 2 minutes);
• at the end of each talk the Chairman must begin the discussion. If no questions come from the audience the Chairman will use one of the already prepared queries.

  It is not required that the Chairman controls the efficiency of hardware and software, this is done by organising staff.

  In the relation to the refereeing system, the Meeting policy is: when the paper passes the first two steps (pre-submission inquiries and pre-screening of the abstract) referees have to write a lot of suggestions for the Authors in order to improve the work quality or to clarify the presented data, cut-away the paper should be avoided if not really necessary (but see the next last point).

  The rules for Referees are only three:

• first, spend time to read and re-read the paper to produce the best scientific suggestions to author(s);
• to obtain a high quality of the meeting communications through corrections, suggestions, queries to the authors. Free your mind from personal opinions that can preclude the exposition of innovative ideas;
• finally suggest the rejection of the presented work only if you are sure that the authors are not able to make major revisions.

  Unfortunately, a lot of abstracts come very closed to the deadline so, with the previous experience, we kindly ask the Referee to reply very quickly, no more than one-two days so that the organisation can send back to Authors their suggestions and obtain the final form on time to print the abstract book.

  If your Contribution incorporates any material from other parties (logos, definitions, names, molecules, brand or similar under copyright), you will procure at your expense, prior to the date of delivery, the permission from each copyright holder.

  This permission must be retained perpetually by the authors. The CMA4CH meeting organisation is not responsible for Copyright infringement made by authors. The first author of the presented work must sign a Cover Letter with the opportune declarations. If the paper is accepted the Cover Letter must be signed in original and sent by snail mail.

  A selection of the works presented in the previous 2006 edition of the Meeting was published in the famous Microchemical Journal, April 2008 issue. For the 2008 edition a selection of the works presented was published on the international journal Current Analytical Chemistry, January 2010 issue. A selection of works presented on the 2010 edition of Taormina is ready for pubblication on the famous Chemistry Central Journal, yxyx issue.

  We are working to find a similar Journal for the publication of works that will be presented in the 2012 edition. Check often our News web page.

  If you cannot attend the meeting you must write promptly to the Organising Committee for the crossing out. Abstracts already submitted will be crossed out from the meeting abstract page, from the book, from the CD. If you have already submitted the registration ensure the cancellation section on our web page.

  You must contact us for the possible penalty concerning the hotel reservation. The not-attendancer must pay the bank re-transfer. By registering, you accept the booking and the crossing out conditions (you can find these in the registration page).

  At present we have established the following prizes:

• 1 award for best over-all presentation of any section and presentation mode (version 6.5x of SOLO+MIA toolbox chemometrics software, full licence), supported by Eigenvector Research;
• 1^st prize for young researcher, in any section and presentation mode, the three books of Prof. R. Brereton (the 2003ed, the 2007ed and the 2009ed). The books is a prize from Meeting Organisation;
• 2^nd prize for young researcher, in any section and presentation mode, the two books of Prof. L. Eriksson et al. (the part 1 and part 2). The books is a prize from Umetrics Academy;
• 3^rd prize for young researcher, in any section and presentation mode, (a top quality 8 GBytes USB memory stick with inside a large collection of multivariate analysis software, someone really difficult to find), supported by anonymous.
• extracted among all the Meeting's participants, the book on D.o.E. (see L. Eriksson et al.). The books is a prize from Umetrics Academy;
• extracted among all the Course's participants, the book on D.o.E. (see L. Eriksson et al.). The books is a prize from Umetrics Academy;

  The Organising Committee have obtained financial support from sponsors, institutions and regional offices in order to schedule:

• reduced fee for young scientists, support by Eigenvector Research and by Eupromed
• one night free of charge in one hotel for young scientists*
• reduced fee for members of scientific organisations**
• free entrance for students, new graduates, PhD students**

  Prize winners are selected by an internal commission composed by three Authors of the Meeting (be ready for this!). The selection is made among Long Abstracts that are in Meeting's book.

  The coffee break of poster session has been substituted by the Prize Party that will take place on Tuesday. The winners will also obtain a Certificate and the their name/photo will be presented in this web site in order to obtain more visibility Please see sponsor's web page for further information.
