General Info

This is a small conference, in our view we would like to build a bridge between researchers involved on cultural heritage (and restorers) and chemometricians. There is environmetrics discipline involved too but we know several researchers on microclimate (just as an example) working with time charts on temperature without any use of multivariate analysis.

In order to achieve this purpose we started biennial Meeting in 2006 and to now we established a "inexpensive course; Multivariate Analysis for Novices" to be held 4 days before the CMA4CH. We assume that the participation to the Meeting (and course/school) can be useful to colleagues to better understand the potential of Chemometry.

The Meeting location

Before each CMA4CH Meeting we select the location for the next one; so at the Nemi Conference, 2006, we communicated that the 2008 Edition should be held in Ventotene Island. This is a very nice small island where under the bad war, in 1941, some prisoners of the jail wrote the "Manifesto di Ventotene" postulating the European Union. Thanks to Altiero Spinelli, Ernesto Rossi, Eugenio Colorni, Luigi Einaudi, Ursula Hirschmann, Ferruccio Parri, Sandro Pertini et al. .

At the end of 2008 edition we communicate the new one, 2010, in Sicily island, really in the centre of Mediterraneum, near the biggest active volcan of Europe, act from 26 to 29 September 2010, with the first edition of "Inexpensive course on Multivariate Analysis".

Of course at the end of Taormina edition we communicate the new place, >>Rome, 27-30 May 2012<< with also the famouse Course open to young (and not) researchers that will be held before the Meeting in Rome city of course. Please read the where the Meeting web page.

How to get to the Meeting

Taking into account the difficulty of the trip of previous edition we create a web page with helpful suggestions to reach the place of the Meeting. Rome is situated in the center of Italy and has two airports. Owners of private ship, aircraft or helicopter will have no problems but others can follow our suggestions. However in the previous linked page you can find all the possible indications. For further information ask us by .

After you have read the Where web page we are obliged to remember you our security section.

Who should attend?

The Meeting concerns theorists, researchers, professors, experts, technicians, involved in multivariate techniques in order to improve the knowledge of the environment and of the cultural artefacts. Every analytical technique/method is welcome if it can be used in a multivariate way.

A cultural item was born in the Environment and suffers all the problems related to its natural and overall anthropogenic pollution; so, the environmental conditions play a fundamental ageing or protecting role on Cultural Heritage. As a consequence, any study regarding restoration and/or conservation of artefacts cannot be correctly carried out if in the past, present and future conservation the Environment is not considered.

Multivariate analysis and chemometry are essential integrated approaches to the knowledge of the history of the cultural item, its constructive techniques, degradation, dating and origin (integrated approach to the knowledge).

Unfortunately a alarm indicator, Médecins Sans Frontières, (mesure du périmètre brachial des enfants)

The use of chemometrics and multivariate analysis to obtain alarm indicators is a relatively new task; such kind of application allows to represent by a single datum the "sum" of a big mass of data; so, the indicator value variation indicates an urgent need for intervention. Who plans, draws, calibrates and uses these indicators in the field of environmental or industrial processes monitoring as well as in the monitoring of the conservation state of an artefact is particularly welcome.

Everyone who likes to present a theoretical subject on chemometry and its new frontiers of calculation, representation and classification is welcome. If it is possible with a plenary lecture. Who is interested in experimental design applied to these themes is also welcome.

Please read the registration web page to obtain available forms, the booking web page for accommodations booking, and also the for authors web page.

Meeting Committees

Aims of the committees job are: a) the control of the scientific quality of the contributions, b) to work for the widest diffusion of the Meeting, c) a careful organisation allowing the presence of the largest number of researchers to the Meeting both as presenters and as audience, d) to look for sponsors and supporters of the Meeting.

Scientific Committee

The Scientific Committee of the CMA4CH 2012, Application of Multivariate Analysis and Chemometry to Environment and Cultural Heritage is composed of honourable scientists of many different Countries. They represent the three main meeting lines (theoretical chemometrics and multivariate analysis, application to environment, application to cultural heritage), but each of them has competence in all the three main topics.

Organising Committee

Because we think that young are our future, the Organising Committee is mainly composed by new graduated chemists and scientists and not by "specialised organisers". Excuse us if something should not go in the right direction in the preparation of the meeting. We are learning and, for the next one, on 2012, that probably will held in one other island at ???, we will surely do better.

Meeting Secretariat

The Meeting secretary actually does not exist ..... You must refer to the appropriate web page for the registration. If you need anything, please contact our Organising Committee by Email.

What we forget?

We have surely forgotten some information that can be useful to anyone who is interested in the Meeting. If you have any suggestion about this, please contact us by .

We are always happy to stay in contact with researchers and participants, and we appreciate your feedback. If you have any comments, suggestions, improvements, or information about additional events-functions that could be added at those pages (or at the Meeting), please contact us at the address above.
