4th Annual Conference of the GARNET networkRome11-13 November 2009 |
The 4th Annual Conference of the GARNET Network of Excellence (Global Governance, Regionalisation and Regulation: The Role of the EU), funded by the EC 6th Framework Programme, was convened in Rome by the Research Centre of International Economics (CIDEI) of Sapienza University of Rome.
The conference addresses the key theme of ‘Food Security and Sustainable Development: Challenges for the Governance of International Relations‘ and was organised in cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI), the University of L’Aquila, and the World Food Programme (WFP).
In addition, the conference included, as part of the programme, a GARNET Research Meeting, with the objective of taking stock of the five-year work carried out by the network. The aim was to showcase research activities, as well as integration activities, designed not only to facilitate cooperation among the centres involved in the research programmes, but also to pave the way for future developments of cooperation.
Part of the conference programme was organized in association with the Global Project on “Measuring the Progress of Societies”, hosted by the OECD.
The conference was also part of the Italian government’s programme for the World Food Day, and was put under the patronage of the European Commission Representation in Italy.
