What is SPES
SPES (Studi per lo Sviluppo) is a multidisciplinary research
centre joined by scholars from several Departments at the University
of Rome La Sapienza and is located in the Faculty
of Economics.
SPES Development Studies Research Centre assumes the longstanding
and outstanding experience of the University
of Roma La Sapienza in the education in development and
related fields, and intends to promote the University of Roma
La Sapienza as a highly qualified institution working on development
research and policy analysis, in Italy as well as in Europe
and in the rest of the World.
SPES Development Studies Research Centre is the result of the
co-operation among scholars from different disciplines that
share interest in research on development.
Aims and scope
The mission of SPES Development Studies Research Centre is the
analysis and research on the development process and on its
consequences on humankind, society, economy, culture, environment
and territory. To this aim, SPES Development Studies Research
Centre promotes synergies between scholars working in a multidisciplinary
perspective.
SPES Development Studies Research Centre acts as a vehicle for
research in development, embracing academic and policy-related
research at both national and international levels. It promotes
and coordinates development studies in a multidisciplinary perspective,
ranging from humanistic studies to socio-economic studies. The
multidisciplinary Centre aims to be a focus for good policies
and practices in the field of development. Due to SPES Centre
for Development Studies, a wide range of expertise at the University
of Roma La Sapienza has become more easily accessible to national
and international organisations that are engaged in development.
